Friends, There are endless wonders of books. These wonders help us to increase our happiness by eliminating our stress and also help to improve intelligence. When I start reading the books, I unknowingly try to remove the darkness and open the doors of light to get the knowledge. It is not only reading the books and keep aside after reading. It is also a pat of sharing the information after analyzing the facts with others in written form. Therefore, I feel to share with you some of the best books which have been read by me. These books are not only enlightening but also entertaining. These books lead to intellectual and metal development and help us to change our perspective about the wrong information. These books are ultimate and interesting to read.

Following are the list of these books

Fictions in English

1.     To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee: This novel takes us to the roots of human behavior by discussing hypocrisy, prejudice, hatred, love and innocence. It is an amazing book which you will read to love.

2.      Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen:  It is the brilliant book which tells us the story of dynamic protagonist who learns about the repercussions of hasty judgments and comes to appreciate the difference between superficial goodness and actual goodness.

3.     1984 by George Orwell: This book is nothing but warning against the totalitarian government which in insists that reality is not something objective, external, existing its own right, but whatever Party holds to be truth.

4.     Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak : This book is based on October Revolution of Russia in which Yuri Zhivago ,a Russian Physician, Philosopher and Poet,  finds his life torn by his love for a revolutionary’s wife and by the war and also feels personal pain for the atrocities of the Bolsheviks, showcasing his pain through his poems.

5.     Animal Farms by George Orwell: The story of this book is showing different angles of power abuse in politics and it is directly attacking Stalin Rules in Russia and Russian revolution

6.     Gone with Winds by Margaret Mitchell:  This book is a great historical epic set against the backdrop of American Civil War which tells the story of unforgettable love and loss of beautiful, ruthless Scarlet O’Hara and the dashing soldier of fortune, Rhett Butler.

7.     A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens: It is said that this book is one of the best historical fictions of Charles Dickens. It is a story of a French Doctor Monette who became a political prisoner during French Revolution. He was released and returned to England to stay with his daughter Lucie to whom he had never met. Good one to read.

8.     Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy: This book tells us range of human emotion and weakness which are prevalent today also. It starts with wonderful sentence,” All happy families resembles one another, but each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way’.  One should really read this book at least once.

9.     The Old Man and Sea by Ernest Hemingway: This book is having universal theme which reflects the truth of man’s existence within his world, where pride, respect and dreams fuel man in his quest to thrive in the face of struggle.

10.  Pereira Maintains by Antonio Tabucchi:  Originally this novel has been written in Italian language. It is a short story which helps us to discover the faces that a dictatorship can take and that shivers down your spine; it is so insidious. Good book to read.

Biographies in English

11.   Churchill: A life by Martin Gilbert: This is the one of the best biographies of Winston Churchill. It is written with great research and provided full details of Mr. Churchill.  This biography is perfect tribute to the mercurial man who led Britain through World War II.

12.Gokhale : The Indian Moderate and British Raj by B R Nanda : One of the best biographies of Gopal Krishna Gokhale, one of the pre-eminent leaders of India during its struggle for India  who reassesses Indian Politics during the last decade of nineteen century and first decade of twentieth century,

13. Nehru, a Contemporary’s Estimate by Walter Crocker: This is the best biography of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who was towering figure of India’s freedom Struggle. It describes Nehru the man and Nehru the politician. He admired Nehru and also critical of some of his political decisions. One should not miss to read this book.

14.Patel A Life by Rajmohan Gandhi: It is the full story of the life of Vallabhai Patel who helped liberate India and then weld India into one nation.

15.  The Life of Mahatma Gandhi by Louis Fischer: This book brings the full sweep of world events which were the stage for Gandhi’s astounding political achievements.  While reading this book, you will feel like to read more about Mahatma Gandhi who change the world forever.

Books on Indian Music

16. The Lost world of Hindustani Music by Kumar Prasad Mukherjee: This books tells us full history of Hindustani Classical music and its giant performers like Ustad Alladiya Khan to Ustad Faiyaz Khan, Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Mallikarjun Mansur, Bhimsen Joshi, Hirabai Barodekar, Mogubai Kurdikar – all absolutely brilliant vocalists and creators or followers of the various Gharana system of music in vogue in Hindustani classic

17. The Music Room by Namita Devidayal: This book is nothing but biography of Dhondutai Kulkarni , a vocalist from Jaipur Gharana. It is a tribute from student to her teacher and also to the generations of musicians and their struggle to create, excel in music hems and pass them to the next generations through tough training and trust.

18. Raga ’N Josh stories of musical Life by Sheila Dhar: this book is nothing but autobiography of Sheila Dhar  who was an accomplished singer , the world she inhabited included Indian classical musicians such as Begum Akhtar, Siddheshwari Bai, Fayyaz and Niaz Ahmed Khan, Kesar Bai Kerkar, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, and Bhimsen Joshi. No writer has ever conveyed the ethos of this world and the quirks of its denizens with such wit, irreverence, perceptiveness and empathy. Good to read.

19. Hindi Film Song Music beyond Boundaries by Ashok D Ranade: This book is written by doing lot of research on Hindi Film Music by a scholar and performer of Hindustani classical Music.  This is the powerful analysis of Hindi Film Music which explains us seriousness as an independent and distinct genre of Indian music,

About Cricket in English

20. Beyond The Boundary by C L R James: This book is on Cricket and its impact on the life of writer. It is not the history of the cricket but social impact of the game in West Indies and England. This book never tells us about technique of the game and also never ready to accept the game how it grappled with team dynamics, skill, psychological war between batsman and bowler, fielders and Batsman. It is just to understand the game in genuine way

21.  The Cricket Country by Prashant Kidambi: This is the magnificent book which tells untold stories or forgotten stories of All India Cricket Team. It is a narrative of a pioneering team. Even Non cricket lovers will enjoy this book

22. A Corner of the foreign Field by Ramchandra Guha: This book talks at length about the once British Sport and its gradual adaptation by localities, all weaved in one an amusing ways . It tells the story of Dalit Cricketers like Balu Palwankar and his three brothers. Very interesting to read.

23.  Art of Captaincy by Mike Brearley: This book is an outstanding treatise on Captaincy and the art of leadership not only on Cricket field but also apply in real life. Interesting to read this book.

Others Historical writing

24.India After Gandhi by Ramchandra Guha: It gives detailed information about contemporary History from 1947 to 2005

25. Idea of India by Sunil Khillani: It is the Philosophical a d Historical approach to the Idea of India. It is well researched book to understand the India.

26. Influence of Islam on Indian Culture by Tara Chand:  It gives the story of Islamic Impact on Indian Culture. It is written very nicely

27.  Maker of Muslim Mind by Sheshrao More : This book is nothing the history of Islam which described the detailed information about Prophet Mohammed Paingamber  , Quran and Hadis.

28.  Hinduism by K M Sen: This book provides good information about Hinduism along with its epics Ramayana and Mahabharata.

29.100 films to see before you die by Anupama Chopra: This book is not giving the exhaustive list of many films but subjective films. It is the lists of classic c films which includes Hollywood and Bollywood which inspired the generations of that period and going to inspired generations to come.

30. Sholay by Anupama Chopra:  This book tells us fascinating story of films at the time of making along with process of casting, moving on to the actual filming over two years in a barren, rocky landscape, and finally the first weeks after the film's release when the audience stayed away and the trade declared it a flop. It is very interesting to read.

There are so many books to read and adding in the list will never end. Therefore, I have given some selected list of books from different areas which are to be read once in the life. I have mentioned these details on occasion of world book day and wish you to enjoy this day with books

When life is bitter, or friendship slips away, or perhaps our relatives leave us for their own haunts and homes, we shall come and sit at the table with Shakespeare and Bertrand Russell, and laugh at the world with Francois Rabelais, and see the autumn loveliness with John Keats. These are the friends who give us only their best, which never answer back, always wait for our call. When we have walked with them awhile, and listened humbly to their speed, we shall be healed of our infirmities, know peace comes of understanding.
