Rishi Panchami is celebrating the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi. It is not a festival but a fasting day observed by women to pay respect & gratitude to Sapta Rishi or seven sages who devoted their life for the welfare of the society. These Seven Sages are Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadhvaj, Vishvamitra, Gauthama, Jamadagni & Vashishta.
On Rishi Panchami day, women observe fasting for purification. In Hinduism, Purification has highest priority and there are guidelines to maintain it. During the menstrual cycle, women are not allowed to do any religious functions and also not allowed to enter in kitchen. Thus, to avoid such guidelines ,women are observing the fast.
In Maharashtra especially in Konkan part and Goa, a special dish is cooked which is being called as Rishichi Bhaji which contains mix veggies. Such veggies are made in such way which can be compared to the way it was prepared during the time of Rishis. For making Rishichi Bhaji ,following vegetables are being used.

3. Potato
4. Pumpkin-Bhopala
5. Raw Banana- Kachi Keli
6. Corn-Makka
7. Tender Peanuts
8. Sweet Potato- Ratale , sakharkandi
Some people are cooking the following vegetables whereas some people are not using.
1. Colocasia Roots-Arabi
2. Colocasia leaves- Aluche Pan
3. Snake Gourd- Padval
4. Right Gourd - Turai
These vegetables are seasonal and very strong & healthy. Mixtures of these veggies bring fantastic test and I always like to eat them with rice.
