Display of True Sporting Spirit
India played its first Test matched in at Lord's on 25th June 1932. It was a three- day Test. And at Lord's, there was for the first time India was playing as a nation. It became an independent political nation in 1947. In 1932, no one really appreciated but history was taking place at Lord's which had a resonance that went far beyond Cricket. India did not do well even after good performances of bowlers like Amar Sing & Mohammed Nissar and some good strokes of C K Nayudu.

In December 1933, English team visited India to play three Test matches. First Test was played in Mumbai from 15th December to 18th December 1933 at Bombay Gymkhana. This is the one & only Test match played at that ground. This is the four days Test started on Friday so that everyone would enjoy the game on the weekend. British Government made an advertisement for their great game & granted holiday on the first day.
There was celebration in English camp as India was bowled out for 219 runs & England made 438 runs in reply. On the third day, India was 21 for 2 , it looked like the match would be ended on the third day. Suddenly something happened which surprised England & also to India. And this surprise was from a 21 years old batsman from Lahore who was making his Test debut. He was no one else but Lala Amarnath. He was batting at number 3 and highest scorer in first innings with 38. In the second inning with the help of C K Nayudu, he scored his first century which was quite exceptional. This pair put together a partnership of 186 runs. He was not out 102 on the third day but Indian team couldn't do well on the fourth day. Amarnath was the hero of this match by scoring 118 runs, even though India lost this match.
There was small incidence which was mentioned by his son Rajinder Amarnath in his book Lala Amarnath. He quotes the wording of Lala Amarnath which says , " When I completed the single to reach my century, C K Nayudu touched his bat at the crease and walked down the pitch to shake hands & congratulate me. Since the ball was still in play , the throw landed in the wicketkeeper's gloves with C K out of the crease. The wicketkeeper looked at his captain for his approval to run the Indian Skipper out , but English Captain disapproved with a gesture it was a wonderful display of true sporting spirit".
Yes, Very True. That time cricket was a game of gentlemen which has changed in years.
